Winter Squash
Winter squash is the backbone of our business. It is a crop that grows well in our rocky soils and we can store it through the winter months, which helps us with cash flow. Over the years we have made considerable advances in this crop; last year we added a large storage facility complete with radiant floor and plenty of insulation. In the field we have invested in state of the art bed-shaping equipment that allows us to make raised beds, fertilize, lay plastic mulch and bury drip irrigation all in one pass.
Our peeled butternut has developed quite a following in the local area. We offer 25 lb. foodservice bags (halves or cubed) for area restaurants and institutions such as Fletcher Allen Hospital. We also produce a 20 oz. retail package that is sold in many local stores. In addition to the butternut, we grow many varieties of winter squash such as pie pumpkin, delicata, acorn, buttercup, red kuri and baby blue hubbard.
