Pig Shares

We are motivated by the belief that the confinement hog industry is a modern day horror. We started raising pigs in order to provide our own family with a safe and healthy alternative. Two pigs lead to four which lead to twenty five, before we knew it we were in the pig business. Our formula for success is simple. Start with pristine pasture, add heritage breed hogs, slaughter at local USDA approved slaughter houses, smoke and cure at Vermont Smoke and Cure, market regionally.

You can buy retail cuts at the Burlington Farmer's Market and/or Healthy Living.  However, for a cheaper alternative we offer "pork shares". In a nutshell, we offer 10,20, and 30 lb. shares of mixed cuts. A 20 lb. share would fill a milk crate, and a 30 lb. share would be a milk crate and a half. A 30 lb. share is 1/3 of a pig, we mix the cuts but try to represent a whole pig. For example a whole pig yields 12 lbs. of bacon so a 30 lb. share would receive four pounds of bacon, ditto ham steaks, chops, etc.

A typical 20 lb. share might be:

3 lbs. bacon

2 lbs. canadian bacon

6 lbs. sausage

2 lbs. fresh ham steak

2 lbs. smoked ham steak

2-3 lbs. ribs

2-3 lbs. chops

Use the currently available chart to see if shares are available.  Supply is somewhat limited so don't be afraid to pre-order a share. Like all of our products, the easiest way to place an order is by using the on-line checkout, or sending a check to the farm. You can also call Eric at 802-355-0059. Once we have received your payment, we will contact you to make arrangements.
