CSA
Meat CSA
Overview:
We are thrilled to add a multi-species Meat CSA to our offering. We started raising chickens, lambs and pigs for our family because we were concerned about what we were eating. We enjoyed the pigs so much that two pigs the first year led to twenty five the next and, before we knew it, we were in the pig business. Last year, we upped our number of meat birds to five hundred. This year, we will raise two thousand, so now we're also in the chicken business. What to do with all this meat? A meat CSA is the obvious answer. It's the best way we can think of to get our meat directly to you, the consumer. Remember we started raising meat as an alternative to the industrial system (inferior flavor, inhumane and laden with added hormones and antibiotics). We want to share what we have: farm-raised meat goodness. No middle man, no b.s., just great meat raised on grass, outside, without hormones or antibiotics--the way it should be.
In addition to pork and chickens we will start growing lambs for the CSA. Beef is not too far on the horizon. We realize it is an essential component to the CSA; so in the mean time we will be sourcing beef from our friends at Maple Wind Farm.
How it works;
Our meat CSA is designed to feed you and your family with a delivery of farm-raised meat each month. When your freezer starts running down, we'll be there to fill it back up. Each month we will deliver meat staples along with a few surprises. Some of the most flavorful cuts of meat are the ones you may not usually buy. In addition to buying a share you might want to consider purchasing Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall's amazing book The River Cottage Meat Book. If there is a cut you don't know how to handle, he'll make sense of it.

Frequently asked questions:
What do I get?
Meat! 12lbs. or 20lbs. per month depending on the option you choose. You can expect half the weight to be staples, such as whole chicken, sausage, and hamburger; the other half will be higher end cuts such as bacon, roast, and chops etc. Depending on our butchering cycle, some boxes will be well balanced while other months will be heavy on one or two species.
Can I make requests?
No. Farming is complicated enough, we simply do not have the residual brain power to deal with special request. If you love lamb, chicken, pork and beef, this is the share for you. If you are interested in choosing specific cuts of meat, shopping at the Farmer's Market is a viable alternative.
What happens if I miss a pick-up?
Please don't. In addition to raising four kids, growing twenty five acres of certified organic vegetables, managing six greenhouses, moving animals, trucking to the slaughter facility, going back to pick up the product, taking additional product to the smokehouse, going back and picking it up, and the zillion other tasks necessary to make this business marginally profitable, we like to enjoy life. If you can't be there, please make arrangements for somebody to pick up your box.
How do I pay?
Use the online check out on this site or mail a check to the farm.
Is your meat organic?
No, it's not. Currently organic grain prices are prohibitive, and the resulting organic meat prices are prohibitive to our customers. Our animals are raised outdoors on pasture. They are fed a supplementary diet of conventional grain and free choice of leftover veggies. We never, ever use antibiotics or hormones. Basically our goal is to grow great meat at a reasonable price.
Do you offer larger shares?
Yes. Contact us if you'd like to purchase a 40 lb. share, the price is $7/lb.
